He married Elizabeth Frances Gill 1 Jun 1900 in Elberton, Spokane, Washington. They had four sons; Harry, Floyd, Joseph, and Edward. He divorced his wife by 1930 and was a laborer at a logging camp in Montana living with his brother Robert Prater. He passed away 30 Jul 1950 in Spokane, Washington and is buried in Riverside Memorial Park.
