The Lakewood Chapel is a small but magnificent domed building. The interior of the chapel dome has the finest true mosaic outside of Europe, containing angels, trees and flowers. The building is stone and Italian marble; the floors, pieced black and white marble. The niches are on a lower level of the chapel reached by a white marble and brass staircase. The niche area walls are floor to ceiling with what appears to be 12" x 12" white marble tiles, each inscribed with a name or names. Each tile is, in fact, a sort of door which slides out of its grooves, revealing a cubby hole where the urns are kept. There is a marble pedestal in the middle of the room to place the urns on.
No photos are allowed to be taken inside the Chapel.
