In the early evening hours of November 13, 1975 Deputy Johnny Swafford (Badge 113) of the Rhea County Sheriff's Department was shot while answering a disturbance call at a home east of Dayton. Deputy Swafford died on scene. His assaliant was later tried and sentenced to 99 years and a day in prison.
