Son of late USS Achey, Sr. and late Mabel (Heine) Achey. Preceded in death by infant daughter, brothers (and spouses): Francis, Leroy, Ohm and Paul; sisters (and spouses): Ethel Zettlemoyer, Sarah Schickram and Edythe Hain.

His livelihoods included farmer, owner/operator of saw mill and finally a scrap metal yard with his stepson.
