Gordon Lae Alexander, 87, of McComb, died June 1, 2011 at Mississippi Baptist Medical Center in Jackson. He was born May 13, 1924 in McComb, MS. He was the son of Milton L. and V'Ella Day Alexander. He was retired shop foreman for Illinois Central Railroad and was a U.S. Navy veteran of WWII. He was a lifelong member of East McComb Baptist Church, now, New Heights Baptist Church.

He was a member of McComb City Lodge #382 where he served as Past Master and was a member of Queen Esther Chapter #4 OES where he served as Past Worthy Patron. He was also a member of the Knights of the York Cross of Honor; Shriners Wahabi Temple and the Miss-Lou Day Lily club.

He is preceded in death by his parents; two sisters, Theo Lavern Alexander and Jonnie Lee Alexander Boyd; 2 brothers-in-law, Thurman Boyd and Clyde Boone and special relatives, Edwin and Grace Etheridge and Gene Varnell.

He is survived by his wife of 65 years, Kathleen Moak Alexander of McComb; one son, Michael Gordon Alexander of Pensacola, FL; one daughter and son-in-law, Sherry and Rev. Tommy Purvis of Wesson; one sister, V. Grace Boone of Poplarville; five grandchildren and their spouses, Mary "Missy" and Doug Walton of Firestone, CO , Robyn and Joseph Carbery of Roxie, MS, Melanie P. and Chad Moak of Bogue Chitto, Dean and Leslie Alexander and Paul Greer, of Brookhaven; nine great-grandchildren, Alexander "Alex" Carbery, Bailey Carbery and Cara Carbery of Roxie, Colbey Moak, Chanie Moak and Saylor Moak of Bogue Chitto, Lainey Greer, Landon Greer and Carson Greer of Brookhaven; special cousins, Howard Alexander of Jayess, Marlene Varnell of Tupelo and Judy Dillon of McComb and many other cousins, nieces and nephews that loved Mr. Alexander.

Visitation is Friday at Hartman-Sharkey Funeral Home in McComb from 9AM until services at 11AM with Revs. Tommy Purvis, Rick Kennedy and J. Frank Smith officiating. Burial will be in Hollywood cemetery.

Pallbearers will be Dean Alexander, Charlie Tudor, Chad Moak, Joe Carbery, Larry Boone and Jason Dillon. Honorary pallbearers will be Howard Alexander and members of the Illinois Central Retiree club.
