Cycle Mishap Kills BHS Sr. Gary Eull
A motorcycle-car accident last Wednesday, April 6, at 6:45 p.m. in Hanover claimed the life of Gerrit (Gary) James Eull, 18, of Buffalo, reports the Wright County Sheriff's Department.
Eull was going to be graduating this spring with the Class of 1988 at the Buffalo Senior High School. He had many friends in school. Described as a very friendly kid who would often volunteer his help, his passing was a shock.
"Grief was really evident in school," said assistant principal Lloyd Styrwoll.
Principal Nick Miller spoke to the students over the public address system and asked teachers to take time to talk with students about their loss. Some students painted the rock in front of the school as a memorial to their friend.
Eull was driving his motorcycle northbound on County Road 19 and was attempting to pass two vehicles on the bridge over the Crow River. The second vehicle in front of him, driven by Robin Allen Perala, 37, of Rogers, started to make a left turn onto River Road when Eull's motorcycle struck the vehicle. Eull was thrown off the motorcycle into a guard rail. He was not wearing a helmet.
He was taken to Health Central of Buffalo and later transferred by helicopter to the North Memorial Medical Center in Robbinsdale, where he died shortly thereafter.
There were no other injuries. The accident was investigated by the local sheriff's department, with aid from the Hanover rescue squad, the Hennepin County Sheriff's Department and the Corcoran Police Department.
Services for Eull were held last Saturday, April 9, at the Zion Lutheran Church in Buffalo. (A complete obituary is printed elsewhere in this issue of the Journal Press.)

Services held for Gary Eull, 18, of Buffalo
Gerrit (Gary) James Eull, 18, of Buffalo died last Wednesday, April 6, at the North Memorial Medical Center in Robbinsdale following an accident at Hanover.
Born January 29, 1970 in Coon Rapids to Karen and Michael Eull, Gary lived most of his life in Wright County. He was baptized at St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Hanover. He had attended the Buffalo Senior High School and was to graduate with the Class of 1988.
Eull had completed one year in the Army Reserves and was a member of the 353rd Transportation Company in Buffalo. During the summer of 1987, he completed his basic training at Fort Dix, New Jersey. Recently, he had been promoted to a rank of private E2. He was to return to Fort Lee, Virginia in June to finish his advanced individual training (AIT) as a repair parts specialist. Gary was proud to be part of the Armed Forces.
He had held various jobs during his early teen years in the Buffalo area. He worked at the Centra Sota Co-op. Most recently, he worked at Tom Thumb.
Gary will be dearly missed by his mother Mrs. James (Karen) Corwin of Buffalo, his father, Mike Eull of Swanville, three brothers, Robert (Bobby), 16, Justin, 14, and Kevin, 12, all of Buffalo, maternal grandparents, Norman and Darlene Dehmer of St. Michael, maternal great-grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Robert Dixon, Sr. of Buffalo and Laurentia Dehmer of the Retirement Center of Wright County in Buffalo, paternal grandmother Irene Eull of Hanover, paternal grandfather Matt Eull of Delano, aunts and uncles, several cousins, many friends and classmates and his very special friend Kari Ophiem of Buffalo.
Gary was looking forward to his graduation in June. He was very special to many people. He always had time for everyone, no matter what age. He was known to play with the little children in his neighborhood or stop on the street and talk to elderly people who were friends and relatives of his parents and family. Gary was always willing to give a helping hand. No task was ever too great for him.
He will be missed most dearly by family members because of hiss smiling face and his great zest for life. Gary died doing the one thing he loved more than life itself, riding and being free with his motorcycle. He was a free spirit. May he find peace in God's love.
Services were held last Saturday, April 9 at the Zion Lutheran Church in Buffalo, with Pastors John Folkerds and Edward Blair officiating. Interment followed at the church cemetery. Military rites were conducted by the Army Reserve. A visitation took place last Friday at the Peterson Chapel in Buffalo.
