Actor. Mitchell Lewis received notoriety as an American actor of the 20th century. His forty-year career had him as a Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer contract actor in both silent and sound films. One of his most rememberable roles was "Captain of the Winkie Guard" in the 1939 film with six Academy Award nominations, "The Wizard of Oz." Another worthy role was the part of Ernest De Farge in the Charles Dicken's novel adaption to the 1935 film, "A Tale of Two Cities." He was known for his silent movies such as "Ben-Hur: A Tale of the Christ" in 1925, "Salome" in 1922, and "Bea Bandit" in 1930. With the "talkie" movies, he often had uncredited parts, but had steady employment. He married twice, remarrying as a widower. A tall man at 6'2", he was a veteran of the Spanish-American War.
