Monsignor Hugh J. Phillips, of Washington, DC, entered into God's Heavenly Kingdom July 11.

Monsignor Phillips graduated from Mt. St. Mary’s elementary school in 1923, and the high school in 1927. He later graduated from the college with bachelor’s and master’s degrees. He was ordained a priest from Mt. St. Mary’s Seminary, for the Baltimore archdiocese, in 1935.

The monsignor was the president of Mt. St. Mary’s College from 1967 to 1971; college librarian from 1935 to 1967, college chaplain, and as faculty, teaching theology and church history. He also taught college at St. Joseph’s College, in Emmitsburg, MD, and at Catholic University of America. He was also Grand Knight of the Knights of Columbus.

Survivors include nephews and nieces.
