Forrest served in WWII as a JAG stationed on Mindanao, Philippines. Among his achievements was drafting the surrender document for the Japanese commander which was signed on Mindanao, also in his presence. His family donated his military diaries to the National Museum of the Pacific War in Fredericksburg, TX.
Forrest never married nor had children. He was a lifelong member of the Polytechnic United Methodist Church in Fort Worth.
