Clyde Pearce dies at 76
McCLURE, Ill. (Special)--Clyde Pearce, a well-known farmer and civic leader of McClure, died at 2:45 Saturday afternoon at his home after an extended illness. He was 76 years old.
Mr. Pearce was born Feb. 1, 1899, in McClure and was married in 1918 to the former Miss Helen Callans, who preceded him in death June 21, 1927. On Sept. 12, 1928, he married the former Miss Viola Johnson.
A former Alexander County Road Commissioner serving in the McClure area, Mr. Pearce was also a precinct committeeman for the county and was a former member of the McClure Elementary School Board of Education. He opened the Purple Crackle Restaurant in East Cape Girardeau in 1939, which his son, Clyde ("Bud") Pearce Jr., now operates.
Surviving: His wife; son, Clyde Pearce Jr., McClure; daughter, Mrs. Earl Waterman, McClure; nephews, Jerry Johnson, McClure, and Dewey Pearce, Ely, Nev.; three grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
One son, Robert L. Pearce, preceded him in death.
Friends may call after 2 this afternoon at Brinkopf-Howell Funeral Home in Cape Girardeau where service will be at 2 Tuesday afternoon. The Rev. Ron Wheeler, pastor of the Baptist Church of McClure, will officiate, with burial in Lindsey Cemetery in McClure.
Pall bearers for the service will be Jim Blakemore, John Wilson, Bob Wilson, Clarence Webb, Miles Hill and Sam Woodard.
