Rita Marjorie Mendenhall, 88, on Monday, May 7, 2012, in a Temple nursing home. The family will receive visitors from 5 to 7 p.m., Thursday, May 10, 2012, at Scanio-Harper Funeral Home. Burial will be a private service at the Fort Sam Houston National Cemetery in San Antonio, Texas.
Rita was born in Perth, Australia, to the late William and Annie Soehlmann Smith. Rita graduated from Commerce High School in San Francisco and from the University of California at Berkeley with a B.A. in home economics. She had a career working in blood banks in San Francisco and St. Louis MO. Rita Mendenhall was a loving wife, mother, and friend who always put her family first. Her nurturing ways will always be cherished and remembered.
Rita was preceded in death by her husband of 68 years, Max K. Mendenhall.
She is survived by her daughter, Patty Mendenhall; sons, Bob Mendenhall, and Jim Mendenhall and his wife, Erika; and grandchildren, Melissa, Daniel, Erin, Rebekah, Seth, and Ryan.
