"Leander R. Hoagland was born in Holmes County on January 16, 1838. He read law with John R. Barcroft and was admitted to the Bar by the Supreme Court of Ohio at Columbus on January 14, 1860. He formed a partnership with Moses Hoagland by the firm name of Hoagland & Haagland, which continued for several months. He enlisted in the Civil War and was a member of Co. F, 65th Regiment, O.V.I. From 1871 to 1872 he was in partnership with John M. Robinson, by the firm name of Hoagland & Robinson. He was Prosecuting Attorney of Holmes County from 1872 to 1876. He was appointed Assistant Adjustant General of Ohio by
Governor Bishop and served from 1878 to 1880. From 1883 to 1889 he was in partnership with C. F. Voorhies, under the firm name of Voorhies & Hoagland. He then practiced alone until his death on September 25, 1902."
Leander R. Hoagland served in Civil War Co F. 65th Ohio Infantry. Rank induction: Sergeant; rank discharge: Private; Allegiance: Union. A Pension was filled for 21 July 1890 Application # 885540, Certificate # 651319 Ohio. Enlisted Oct 5, 1861 and honorably discharged Dec 14, 1864.
