Elizabeth Ann (Betty) Harter, 88, died Monday, January 18, 2010, at Visiting Nurse and Hospice Home, Fort Wayne, Indiana. Born February 9, 1921, in Fort Wayne, Indiana, she was the daughter of the late Earl and Ruth (Holmes) Trego. She graduated from Central High School in 1939, married Ross Everett Harter in 1940, and retired from the Lincoln Life Actuarial Department in 1984. A lifelong Christian, she was a member of First Christian Church (Disciples of Christ). She was a beloved wife, mother, mother-in-law, sister, grandmother, and friend for whom the center of life was her family. She is survived by her sons, Steven (Tana) and Tom (Nancy) Harter, both of Fort Wayne, and Dan (Yvonne) Harter of Indianapolis; daughter-in-law; Charlene Harter, grandchildren; Pam, Kim, Laurie, Christopher, Ross, Ben, Melanie, Meghan, and Andrew; 14 great-grandchildren; 12 great-great grandchildren; and sister, Harriet Modesjewski. She was preceded in death by her husband, Ross; son, Michael Harter; brother, Robert Trego; and granddaughters; Tammy Gibbs and Kasey Harter. Memorial service is 11 a.m Friday at Trinity English Lutheran Church, 408 West Wayne Street, with calling one hour prior to service. Calling also from 2 to 5, and 7 to 9 p.m. Thursday at D. O. McComb & Sons Covington Knolls Funeral Home, 8325 Covington Road. Private interment servcice for immediate family is 9 a.m. Friday.
