Berend Willem "Ben" Pietenpol was born in the Netherlands on July 2, 1829 to Hendrik Jan Pietenpol and Hinners Lammers. Ben's father, Hendrik, died in the Netherlands in 1842. Five years later, when Ben was 17, he and his mother and brother and sister immigrated to the United States (NY).
After settling in Sheboygan, Wisconsin, Ben married Janna Hendrika Oonk on November 10,1854. Ben and Janna had eight children: Jane; Johanna; Henry; Josephine; John; Kate; Catherine; and William Pietenpol.
Ben passed at the age of 64 on February 22, 1894.
