This portrait, and the caption below, is from the CONFEDERATE VETERAN, Vol. 4, No. 6 (June 1896), p. 179: "Major G. Washington Morgan, born in Calhoun, Tenn., December 1, 1817, enlisted at Knoxville, Tenn., early in 1861. Was Major of the Third Tennessee Infantry until May, 1862, when he joined Morgan's Cavalry and soon became Major of the Second Kentucky. He was in several battles, both infantry and cavalry, and was killed as Ashland, near Lexington, Ky., October 27, 1862."
