Ona was born in a small village in northern Lithuania. She was the spouse of Sylvester Balzer or Balzar, who operated a grain mill.
She was mother of eleven children, four of whom survived childhood. Those four: Peter, Victoria, Anthony, and Alexander immigrated in the early years of the twentieth century to Rochester. Following Sylvester's death in 1918, Ona's youngest son, Alex, travelled to Lithuania to accompany his mother to her new home in Rochester. Until her death she resided with Victoria and John Bullis and granddaughter Anna.
