Mildred A. Cates, 95, of Greenfield, died Thursday, Jan. 29, 2009, at VanAyer Manor in Martin. Services were held 1 p.m. Saturday at Williams Funeral Home in Greenfield, with Bro. Mark Abbott officiating. Burial was in Hornbeak Cemetery, Greenfield. Richard Marcus, Dale Maness, Bill McCall, Sherman Powers, Jerry Floyd and Derrell Cothran served as pallbearers. Mrs. Cates was born April 29, 1913, in Greenfield, daughter of the late Murray Coats and Carley Hornbeak. She was a homemaker and the widow of Leon Cates. Survivors include five grandchildren, Sherry Horn Park of Camden, Kevin Cates of Alabaster, Ala., Tracey Cates and David Horn, both of Greenfield, and Kathey Pruitt of Paris.
