Tulaga John Seau "Papa" Passed away peacefully in his sleep in Bay Point, California on Easter Morning, April 16, 2006. He was 75 years old. Born in Aunu'u, American Samoa on December 29, 1930 to Sasi and Leiu Seau, he was one of 6 children. He is survived by his loving sisters, Fualosa Toalepai and Vaimoana Tautolo. He enlisted in the U.S. Army on August 26, 1952 and retired after 30 years of service on August 25, 1982. He was a "Leader of Men" when he trained to become a "SDI" or Senior Drill Instructor. Included in the many military theatres he served in were: Fort Ord, California - HQ CO. 1st BN, 2nd Brigade; Korean Conflict - 1st BN, 17th Infantry, 2nd Infantry Division; US ARPAC - 1st BN, 5th Cavalry, 1st Air Cavalry Division; Vietnam Tet Counter Offensive, Sept., 1968; Vietnam Counter Offensive phases VI, V, and VI. Among the medals and awards he received were: 2 Purple Hearts, 2 Bronze Stars for valor with oak leaf clusters, 2 silver medals, UN service medal, Korean service medal and 2 National Defense service medals. Predeceased in July, 1988 by the love of his life, Eleanor Hisatake, who he married in Hawaii on July 20, 1956. Loving and devoted father to 10 children; Adele, Shirley, Eva, Richard, Debbie, Sally, Patrick, Freddie, Julio and Tanya. Adored father-n-law to: Salamo David Sua, Jr., Amy (Meredith) and Shelbie (HO). Hero to his 20 grandchildren; Noah, Nicole, Patrick Tulaga, Anthony, Tau, Keoni, Taneisha, Tinei, Patrick Jr., Kimo, Paia, Joseph, Tanoa, Eleanor, Leah, Aliyah, Patricia, Taisia, Levy and Tohko. Tulaga was a devout catholic and lived his life guided by the teachings of the church. He was proud to be an usher at the Church of the Good Shepherd in Pittsburg. He touched many lives with his love and generosity of spirit. Our lives won't be the same without him, but he will live forever in our hearts. We love you, Papa! Family and friends are invited to attend the visitation and words of encouragement on Saturday, April 29, from 12:00 noon to 6:00 p.m. at Pittsburg Funeral Chapel, the Rosary and Vigil service on Sunday, April 30, beginning at 4:00 p.m. at the Church of the Good Shepherd and the Funeral Liturgy on Monday, May 1 at 10:00 a.m., also at the Church of the Good Shepherd. Burial will follow in Cypress Lawn Memorial Park, Colma, California. Pittsburg Funeral Chapel 925-432-2114
