The Antelope, Texas, native served as pastor of the First Freewill Baptist Church from 1947 until his retirement in 1986. He entered the ministry in 1939 and served in the Army from 1943 to 1945 as a medic and chaplain's assistant.
He was also a partner in Cox Real Estate firm in Dallas from 1968 until his death.
Mr. Cox received his bachelor's degree in Bible education from Dallas Bible College in 1951. He earned his master's degree in theology from Bible Baptist Seminary in Fort Worth in 1953.
Survivors include his wife, Artelle Cox of Duncanville; two sons, Robert D. Cox of Heath, Texas, and Michael L. Cox of Cedar Hill; a daughter, Cynthia A. Grimes of Cedar Hill; two sisters, Catherine Simons of Dallas and Mildred Dixon of Vashti, Texas; and eight grandchildren.
