Sergeant Archie C. Heady Jr., DSN 0887, was commissioned as a Police Officer on 02/01/1954. Upon graduating from the Saint Louis Metropolitan Police Academy he was assigned to the 3Rd District, Records Division, Communications Section, and finally the Canine Division where he spent the majority of his career. While he was in the Canine Section he was promoted to the rank of Sergeant on 12/20/1964 and remained there for the rest of his career. Sergeant Heady retired on 08/26/1978 with a total of 24.56 years of service. During his career, Sergeant Heady received two letters of "Honorable Mention" on 03/01/1962, and 09/01/1962 for outstanding police work above the call of duty. Sergeant Heady was also a veteran of the United States Navy and attained the rank of Navy Seaman, which is an E-3.
It should be noted that Archie C. Heady Jr. followed in the footsteps of his father who was also a Saint Louis Police Officer.
