Johnny was born at Fort Herriman in Salt Lake City, Utah. He was the second son of David Morris and Jane Jenkins Bowen.
At the age of 10, he was sent out on the winter range with a man named Johny Jones to herd sheep. He had very little formal schooling, but his mother taught him to read and write in the little time she had with him.
Johnny was a very generous man. He loved to sing and was often asked to perform. He also loved to participate in dramas and play ball.
He married Selena Ann Judd on November 17, 1886 and was the father of 8 children. He served a mission for 31 months in the Southern States, spending most of his time in Kentucky. His mission was hard and many people did not want to hear his message. He and his companion were even served poisoned water.
He established the Implement Company in Coalville, Utah. He served in many positions in the LDS Church, including the Stake High Council with Presidents W.W. Cluff and Moses W. Taylor.
