He attended school in a one room school house in Cherokee County. As a grandchild, I was amazed when he assisted me with homework in algebra.
He played baseball as a catcher with a local team and was offered a spot on a traveling farm team but could not go because he was needed at home to work the farm.He taught all his grandchildren how to play baseball. We learned how to throw spit balls, knuckle balls, how to bunt and hit a home run. as girls, we were stars of the neighborhood sandlot teams.
He worked for the city of East Point for forty five years. He was in Charge of the East Point Swimming Pool and taught us all how to swim in the early mornings before the pool opened. Back then there was a large wooden structure in the middle of the large pool. We called it a raft and once we could swim to and from the raft then we could swim.
He loved his children, grandchildren and great grandchildren and thought they were the best in the world.
