(taken from) Napoleon Homestead, August 4, 1939, Napoleon, North Dakota, transcribed by Michael Bowen, MRB, #47351043---Accidental Death-Tom Bowen, 64, was killed almost instantly Friday, July 28, about 4 p.m. at the Napoleon Farmers elevator when a truck hoist fell on him. Mr. Bowen, who had worked at the elevator at times for seven years, was under the front end of trucks to unload grain, which he was cleaning and repairing for the fall grain business. Thomas Bowen was born March 20, 1875 at Cherokee, Iowa the son of Mr. and Mrs. Patrick Bowen, who were natives of Ireland. He came to Logan county, North Dakota and in 1907 taught rural school for ten years. He farmed in the Napoleon vicinity until 1929, when he moved to town. On July 13, 1908 he was married at Napoleon to Miss Margaret Kleinschmidt. He is survived by his widow and six children, Margaret, Mrs. Edward Woodbury, Agnes Bowen (1915-?, burial unknown), Peter Bowen, Sadie, Mrs. Leon Selby Thompson (23 May 1922-20 Oct 2016), Edward Bowen and Mary Bowen, Mrs. Ernest Wollschlaeger (1911-1962). He is also survived by three sisters, Mrs. William T. Murphy, Mrs. Rosanna Lynch, Cherokee, Iowa and Mrs. Margaret McGuire. Funeral services were conducted Monday morning from St. Philip's Catholic church at Napoleon with Rev. Lawrence Wiedmann officiating. Interment was in the Napoleon Catholic cemetery.
