Verna McCarthy Amick of Eugene died March 24 of age-related causes. She was 90.

Amick was born April 22, 1913 in Litchville, N.D., to Louis and Mary Ann Straub McCarthy. She married Loyd Amick in East Grand Forks, Minn., on June 8, 1941. He died Sept. 16, 2003.

She attended schools in Litchville and received a bachelor's degree from Valley City State College in North Dakota. She lived in Whitefish, Mont., before settling in Eugene in 1950.

She was employed as a teacher and taught at Edison Elementary School and Roosevelt High School as a well as a middle school in Eugene.

Her hobbies included investing and she enjoyed walking. She was an active member of St. Mary Catholic Church and she also belonged to educational professional associations.

Survivors include three daughters, Lani Battleson of Oakton, Va.; Nancy Classen of Eugene; and Virginia Worley of Conyers, Ga.; a sister, Lucille Sundstrom of San Diego; six grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

Inurnment at Mt. Calvary Cemetery in Eugene. Poole-Larsen Funeral Home in Eugene is in charge of arrangements.
