Gertie E. Cook, 88, 1409 N. Granville, died Monday in Ball Memorial Hospital.
Mrs. Cook was born in Farmersburg, attended schools there, moved to Terre Haute as a teenager and came to Muncie in 1929.
During World War II, she worked at Warner Machine. She worked in the men's department at J.C. Penney for many years before retiring in the late 1960s.
She was a member of Delco Sympathy Club.
Surviving are a daughter, Mary E. Lewis (husband: Robert M.), Muncie; two sons, William O. Cook (wife: Beverly), Xenia, Ohio, and Richard E. Cook (wife: Wanda), Muncie; five grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; a sister, Esther Owen, Terre Haute; a brother, Wayne Owen, Denver, Colo.; and several nieces and nephews.
Her husband, Otto O. Cook, died in 1973. Her parents, Finley and Clara Gaskins Owen, also are deceased.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Thursday in Meeks Mortuary, with Rev. Rusty Clements officiating. Burial will be in Elm Ridge Cemetery. Calling is at the mortuary 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday and before services on Thursday.
