Herman Lamar "Buddy" Gantt died Tuesday, Nov. 14, 2006 in Elk Creek, VA. He was born in Shelby, NC July 18, 1928. Buddy was an outstanding athlete. He earned a football scholarship to Gardner Webb College, where he played right halfback. He is also a graduate of the University of SC
Buddy was a veteran of both the US Navy and the Marine Corps. He served his country both WWII and the Korean War. He enjoyed his life to the fullest, preferring the outdoors. He was was an avid gardener, enjoyed woodworking stone masonry, landscape painting, growing Christmas trees and the company of his cats.
Buddy was predeceased by his wife, Jessie York Gantt, his father, Weldon Gantt, his mother, Ruth Moss; and his stepmother, Ellen Gantt.
A graveside service will be conducted Friday Nov. 17 at l pm in Comers Rock Cemetery, Elk Creek, VA The Rev. Owen Moore will officiate
