Confederate officer. Wounded in side at First Manassas. Captured at Kernstown. Wounded in arm at Spotsylvania. Wounded in left leg at Third Winchester; again in left leg at Hatcher's Run. Staff officer with General J.A. Walker. Lawyer in Baltimore. Memoirs are very rare and sought after.

The Shenandoah Herald, 18 Mar 1921, Fri ·Page 3, carried news of Barton's death and quoted General Walker as saying that Barton's only flaw was that "he had a bad habit of getting in the way of Federal bullets."
