Oregon Pioneer and Explorer. Rocky Mountain Fur Co. man. A pioneer to Oregon in 1834 with his wife Eliza, the daughter of old Chief Joseph. One of three men chosen for the first Executive Committee of an Oregon Provisional Government (with David Hill and Alison Beers), serving from 1843 to 1844 - effectively making Joseph Gale one of the first Oregon Governers. Helped build the first sailing vessel manufactured in Oregon, Oregon Star (currently "moored" in Tillamook, Oregon), which was sailed to San Francisco and sold in order to purchase cattle and other stock, which were driven to the Oregon Territory.
