Mrs. Martha Lindsey Downey, wife of A. Downey, died at her home in Bushnell Sunday morning at 3 o'clock, at the age of 79 years, 8 months and 3 days. She had been in good health for a long time and her death was sudden although not entirely unexpected. Funeral services were held at the residence Tuesday afternoon in charge of Rev. C.E. Schaible, pastor of the Presbyterian Church. Interment was in the Bushnell cemetery.
Martha Lindsey was born near Pittsburg, Pennsylvania, January 25, 1834. Her mother died when she was but seven years of age. She came to Illinois and lived with her grandfather, James Crawford. In 1859 she was married to A. Downey. To this union were born four children, three of whom are dead. The living child is William Downey of Lincoln, Nebraska. In her young years Mrs. Downey was identified with the Presbyterian Church. She was quiet and reserved and a conscientious christian woman and much beloved by those who knew her best.
