Obituary for Rubylee Courtney

Rubylee Courtney a resident of Dallas, Oregon went home to be with her Lord and Savior on Thursday, March 8th after a brief illness with bladder cancer. Rubylee Courtney was born at home on a farm near Meridian, Idaho on July 28, 1921. She was the only daughter born to Lee and Ada White. After attending Columbia and Five Mile Grade Schools, she enrolled in Boise High School, graduating in 1939. She enrolled later that year in Link's Business College, completing a Stenographic business course and working part time until completion of the new Boise Junior College in September 1940. Rubylee graduated in June 1942. She worked as a student assistant in various departments in the Business office at the school and upon graduation; she became a full-time employee at the college, working for 8 years until her marriage to Harry Courtney on July 8, 1950. She and Harry then moved to Portland, Oregon, where Harry was a construction supervisor for various architects. In 1956 Rubylee gave birth to their only child, Lynn while residing in Moses Lake, Washington. Shortly after Lynn was born the family moved to Portland, Oregon and then to Honolulu, Hawaii in 1960. Rubylee loved living in the tropics but after a few years the family missed the change of seasons and moved to Dallas, Oregon in 1964 where she has lived ever since.
Harry and Rubylee loved Dallas and their home on the creek next to the Dallas City Park. After Harry passed in 1989, Rubylee continued living in the home until September 17, 2010 when she moved to the Dallas Retirement Village apartments.
Rubylee was strong in her Christian faith and was active in her church at Salt Creek Baptist where she was a member for over 46 years. She was a people person who enjoyed visiting and interacting with other friends, neighbors or anyone else she met. She was known to frequently help other seniors with rides to and from appointments, church, or wherever people needed to be. She also enjoyed reading, telling family members she completed 512 books since her husband died in addition to reading the Bible from cover to cover four times. Those who knew her know Rubylee always had a sharp mind and had a remarkable ability to remember names and dates to everyone's amazement. She took pride in being able to greet people she met by their name. She always had a positive attitude and offered words of encouragement to everyone she met.

Rubylee is survived by her son, Lynn, daughter-in-law, Geriann and two grandchildren, Kayla and Tyler who she was so proud of. Rubylee's warm heart and kind personality will be sorely missed by all who knew her.

Funeral Services will be Saturday. March 17th at 1:00 p.m. in Salt Creek Baptist Church. Visitation will be on Thursday and Friday from 11:00 am until 5:00 p.m. in Dallas Mortuary Tribute Center. Interment will be in Dallas Cemetery. Memorials may be made to the Union Gospel Mission or Simonka Place or Camp Tapawingo in care of Dallas Mortuary Tribute Center.
