Alma Lue Brown was born in the community of Beech Bottom, Clinton Co., Kentucky to Martha Ellot (Stinson) and Rev. George Washington Brown.

She married Lonnie Beckam Bertram, son of Rosa Senabelle (DeRossett) and Porter Harrison Bertram of Wayne Co., Kentucky, on 24 May 1927 in Allardt, Fentress Co., Tennessee. Alma and Beckam had five children, four daughters and one son: Nora Jean, Nova, Betty, Bessie, and Fount.

Alma was a devoted,loving mother and wife. During her last years she suffered from severe crippling rheumatoid arthritis causing her and Beckam to relocate to Dayton, Ohio to live with their daughter and son-in-law, Bessie and Delbert Garrett. She died there but her body was taken back to Kentucky for burial in the Pleasant Hill Cemetery, Sunnybrook, Wayne Co., Kentucky. Her husband died about a year later and is buried next to her.
