Obit from the Daily Yellowstone Journal, Lewistown, MT, 16 Oct 1888

Ralph Bailey died yesterday morning from the effects of an accidental self-inflicted gunshot wound. Blood poison set in and no possible chance of recovery remained. His physicians feared such a termination and nothing was left undone by them to ward off the fatal result.

Bailey was about 28 years of age and had been working on the range for several years and at the time of the accident had made all the arrangements to go east with a trainload of cattle, and visit his old home; in fact, was going that same evening with the cattle train. He owned plenty of money to pay the cost of his medical attendance and all other debts incurred and there was some left.

Johnny Cosgriff, who has been taking charge of the affairs of the unfortunate young man since his accident, has telegraphed to Bailey's home in New Boston, Missouri, for instructions concerning the disposition of the remains, which would without a doubt be sent east for interment.
