Cher Ami, Two french words that mean "Dear Friend". He is pictured here with his missing leg on display at the Smithsonian . On October 3, 1918, 500 men were traped and many had been killed. Major Whittlsey sent out many pigeons but all had been shot down and only one survived and it was Cher Ami with leg blown off who saved the fighting men of America.
