As a boy John grew up in a town whose main notoriety was the location of the main unit for the Texas Dept. of Corrections. He had a handsome cedar chest with the Robinett name on the lid carved by prisoners.
When grown John moved to Clarksville, Texas in the early 1900s and worked as a bookkeeper for the Goodman Brothers. It was there that he met his future wife, Vera Leontine Brewer and before 1912 they were married and soon had a daughter Vera Elizabeth in 1912. In 1915 they had another daughter Verna Louise. In 1917 during the Great War John registered for the draft, but was 36 years old with two children and was not selected for service.
After the war the family moved to the 2300 block of Pierce Ave in Houston, Texas. Their daughter, Verna, remembered as a child putting pennies on the streetcar tracks in front of their house, then collecting the squashed coins for keepsakes. Before 1920 they moved to 4600 La Branch St. where they stayed for the rest of their lives. In 1924 they had their final child John Henry.
John was a career insurance salesman for Bankers Life insurance Company, a 32 Degree Mason and a member of the Arabian Temple of Houston.
John's beloved wife Vera passed away in 1961 and John died on November 29, 1962 in Houston Texas after a short illness. He was survived by his son John Henry, daughters Vera and Verna, and brother Wiley.
