Born John Clayton, Jr., my father was the only child from the marriage of Eleanor(Elnora)Bynum and John H. Clayton, Jr. Dad served in the U.S. Marines in WWII in the Pacific Theatre. He was wounded on Tarawa on the first day of battle, but recovered and returned to duty. He had married Alpha Ollivene Lindle before going to war and she divorced him when he was still in the service. He met and married my mother, Helen Jane Berry, and they were married in 1947 in Los Angeles, CA. They had two daughters. Dad retired from the ABC School District in Cerritos, CA. He was predeceased by his firstborn grandchild, Diana Carol Burch. He was survived by his wife, two daughters, three other grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and one great-great grandchild.
