He was selected by the Montreal Canadiens round 4 #78 overall in the 1983 NHL Entry Draft. On August 8, 1992, Kordic died at the age of 27, while in L'Ancienne-Lorette, Quebec. Kordic, who had been battling substance abuse for some time, had an episode in a hotel while high on cocaine. When police arrived, they tried to calm down Kordic but had no luck. The officers had to wrestle him to the ground so that they could arrest him. A few minutes later, Kordic stopped breathing. Kordic was later pronounced dead from a cocaine overdose and a collapsed lung due to a loss of oxygen. A coroner later found that no excessive force by police or incompetence on the part of the ambulance attendants resulted in his death.
