Major League Baseball Player. For eight seasons (1991 to 1992, 1994 to 1999), he was a pitcher with the Texas Rangers, Florida Marlins, Baltimore Orioles and Kansas City Royals. Born Terry Alan Mathews, he excelled as a three-sport athlete (baseball, football, track and field) at Menard High School (Louisiana) and continued his athletics while attending the University of Louisiana-Monroe. Selected by Texas during the 5th round of the 1987 Amateur Draft, he marked his Major League debut with the Rangers on June 21st, 1991 and pitched in 34 games that year, recording 4 wins. Primarily a middle reliever, he experienced post season action with Baltimore in 1996, as he appeared in 3 games during the American League Divisional Series and 3 contests during the American League Championship Series. In 1997, he pitched in 1 game during the 1997 ALDS. Mathews produced three consecutive years of 50-or-more games appearances (1995 with 57, 1996 with 71 splitting playing time with Florida and Baltimore and 1997 with 57). In 324 regular season games, he compiled a 22 win, 21 loss record with a 4.25 lifetime ERA in 421 innings pitched. Following his baseball career, he became a school resource officer.
