Sherman(Tx.) Democrat, Wednesday, December 17, 1941

Gunter-- M. J. CRAVENS, age 70, a blacksmith in this vicinity for 30? years, died Wednesday at 2 a.m at a Sherman hospital. He had been ill two weeks.
Services are to be held Thursday at 2 p.m. at the Gunter Baptist Church and interment will be in Cross Roads Cemetery near Celina.
Mr. CRAVENS was born in Collin County, April 9 , 1871 a son of Mr. and Mrs. ABE CRAVENS and had lived in Collin and Grayson Counties all of his life. Outside of seven years as a farmer he had been a blacksmith. He had operated a shop at Gunter about 20 years and before that operated shops at Celina, Anna and Marilee.
He was married to Miss SARAH ANN LINDSEY, Sept. 16, 1890 at Anna, Texas by the Rev. JOHN O. SULLIVAN. They celebrated their golden anniversary in September, 1940. Mr. CRAVENS was a member of the Baptist Church.
Surviving are his widow ; six sons, ELDREDGE of Navarro, JOHNNY of Dallas, ROY of Melissa, EDGAR of Weston and CLAUD and ARTHUR of Gunter; seven daughters, Mrs. R. O. BACON, Mrs. MARBIT HOLCOMB and Mrs. TOM BLEDSOE of Gunter, Mrs. D. R. BUSHNELL of Calif., Mrs. D. F. BERRY of New Mexico, Mrs. MARY BACON and Mrs. JOHN O'DELL of Sherman ; three brothers, OSCAR and GEORGE CRAVENS of Anna and JESS CRAVENS of Idaho and three sisters, Mrs. ROSE JAMES of Calif., Mrs. ODE KIRKHAM and Mrs. CALLON of Okmulgee, Oklahoma ; 25 grandchildren and six great grandchildren.
