My mother "Joanie" was born 8 October 1933 to Charles Virgil Henry (1911-1992) and Odell Violet Allen (1916-1979) in the tiny community of Manitou, Oklahoma, in her grandmother's home. Her family migrated to California during the Great Depression, in search of work and a better life. They settled in Riverside and later in San Diego, where ultimately my mom met the man who would later be her second husband and my father. She spent her later years in Northern California, where two of her children are buried. She was a talented poet and an aspiring author. She is survived by three children but outlived four. She is dearly missed by a husband, seven grandchildren and one great-grandchild. Rest in peace, Mommy.
