Fred Deforest Abbott was born July 21, 1884 in McHenry Co., IL, the son of Albert H. and Wellia E. (Kelsey) Abbott. The family then moved to Highland Twp., Hand Co., SD, along with baby Fred and his older brother Frank (1882). Brothers Raymond (1889) and Earl (1897) were born in SD. Sometime between 1905 and 1910, Fred's parents and brother Earl had returned to McHenry Co., IL.

Fred Abbott married Ida M. (Parkhurst), daughter of Daniel and Sarah (Brooks) Parkhurst of Midland Twp., Hand Co, SD, about 1903. They had about 10 children. They moved to Canada and later divorced. Ida died May 19, 1982 in Quesnel, British Columbia, Canada (no memorial found).

Fred was remarried to Ada (Hanson). They had about 10 children. Fred died in 1950, and Ada died in 1951. Both are buried in Arkansas.
