Professional Football Player. He holds the distinction as being the first-ever selection in the inaugural draft of the Canadian Football League when Montreal selected him in 1953. For eleven seasons (1953 to 1963), he played at the defensive end, defensive tackle and offensive end positions in the Canadian Football League with the Montreal Alouettes and Toronto Argonauts. Raised in the town of Merritton (not far from St. Catharines), basketball would be the first sport he excelled in during his youth. He continued his excellence at basketball in addition to achieving greatness playing football while working his way towards earning a degree in Business Administrations at the University of Western Ontario. He was a contributor to three Alouette squads which appeared in the Grey Cup Game (1954 to 1956). Individually, McNichol received All-Star honors five-times (1953 to 1955, 1958 to 1959). After retiring as a player, he served as a football coach. He died of complications from pancreatic cancer.
