Hays Daily News: RUSSELL ­ Harold "Swede" Carlson, 88, died Thursday, Sept. 9, 1999, at the Hays Medical Center. He was born Jan. 12, 1911, in Soperville, Ill. to Fred Alfred and Jennie Mathilda (Peterson) Carlson. He married Helen L. Staggers on May 7, 1937, in WaKeeney. He was a longtime area resident, moving from Illinois at age 5. He lived several years in Plainville before moving to Russell in 1957. He worked with Phillips Petroleum, then for John O. Farmer from 1952 to 1978 as production superintendent. He was a member of the Trinity United Methodist Church and Shrine Club, both of Russell, ISIS Shrine, Salina, York Rite at Great Bend, and KIOGA and Masonic Lodge, Burdick.

Survivors include his wife, Russell; a son, Walton, Columbia, Mo.; a daughter, Jennie Louise Oukada, Gold Canyon, Ariz.; a foster daughter, Nell Ott, Oak Grove, Mo.; a brother, Dale, Herington; six grandchildren; and a great-grandchild. He was preceded in death by a brother, Walter.

Services at the Pohlman´s Mortuary Chapel, Russell, with the Rev. Glenn Tombaugh officiating; Cremation will follow.
