Nelle was a daughter of John Wesley Moore and Elizabeth Keath. She married David Quiller Hanes a son of Samuel Veach Hanes and Mary Cathren Varvel. The happy occasion took place on November 24, 1895 in Woodland (Iroquois County), Illinois. They had nine children; eight sons and one daughter. Nelle was known for her beautiful flowers and plentiful gardens.
