Ferre married Hiltje Jans Nieuwenhuis in the Netherlands and had two children. Henry Fredrick Anema was born December 14, 1883 and Jan Anema was born March 22, 1885, both in Friesland, Netherlands. Jan died April 21, 1885 at one month of age.
Ferre, Hiltje, and Henry traveled to the USA on a ship called the Southwark. They left from Antwerp, Belgium and arrived at Ellis Island April 29th, 1896. The ship manifest indicates they planned to go to Grand Rapids, MI as permanent settlers. Ferre was a laborer.
The spelling of Ferre's name has been seen with both one and two r's. After arriving in the USA Ferre used the name Fred.
It appears from the 1900, 1910 & 1920 Federal Census records that Ferre and Hiltje did not have any more children after arriving in the USA.
Ferre died of a pelvic abcess Jan 28, 1919 in Wyoming Township, Kent Co., MI and was buried in Oakhill Cemetery Jan 31, 1919.
