Mrs. Lay was a well known Knox County Homemaker, and a member of the Coalport Missionary Baptist Church.
Along with her parents, she was preceded in death by her first husband: Thomas Lane; and by her second husband: John C. Lay; Her daughter: Nada Belle Singleton; Her son: Thomas Granville Lane; Her five sisters: Hannah Ogan, Lindy Hipsher, Charity Ogan, Eva West and Pearl Gibson; and her four brothers: George Ogan, Andrew Ogan, Charles Ogan and Brownlow Ogan; and her nephew who she throught of as a son: Raymond D. Pridemore.
Mrs. Lay is survived by her loving family: a very special niece whom Mrs. Lay loved as her daughter: Judy Gibson of Artemus. Her niece: Brenda Jenkins of Artemus. Her grandson: John Singleton and wife, Irena of Maynardville, Tennessee. Her great grandchildren: Darian Singleton, Dimitri Singleton and Delaney Singleton. Her adopted nephew: Ralph Hudson and wife, Joyce of Heidrick; and many other relatives and dear friends to mourn her passing.
Funeral Services for Ruth Lay will be 2:00 P.M. Friday, February 10, 2012 in the Hopper Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Rick Partin and Rev. Adam Woollum officiating. Burial will follow in the Burch-Alford Cemetery at Artemus. Those serving as Pallbearers will be: John Singleton, Darian Singleton, Dimitri Singleton, David Woollum, Rev. Adam Woollum, Joel Partin and Rev. Rick Partin. Those serving as Honorary Pallbearers will be: Carolyn McQueen, David Woollum, Patricia Woollum, Louis Partin, Betty Partin, Kenneth Lay, Pat McDonald, Sharon McDonald, Delphus Lay, Stanley Miller, Doris Miller, Cody McQueen, Mary Ellison, Rev. Danny Hembree, Carol Hembree, Cecil Meeks, Dr. Bashum, and the Tri-County Hospice Nurses.
Hopper Funeral Home will be in charge of arrangements.
The Lay family will receive friends at the Hopper Funeral Home after 6:00 P.M. on Thursday, and after 10:00 A.M. on Friday until the funeral hour of 2:00 P.M.
