GREER, SC - March 5 - Mrs. Annie Wood Barton, 78, wife of the late Rev. J. Henry Barton, died at 2 p.m. Saturday at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Carl Poole, in the Oneal community. She had been ill 22 months.
Mrs. Barton was born and reared at Tigerville, and was a daughter of the late Dr. T. E. and Nancy Penelope Glenn Wood. She had lived in the Oneal community for 50 years and was a charter member of Bartons Memorial Holiness Church, which her husband founded.
Surviving are four daughters, Mrs. Carl Poole, Mrs. Lloyd Poole, and Mrs. Manley Crain, all of Greer, Route 3, and Mrs. Mary Stone, Greer; four sons, Hollis and J. T., Greer; Hearschell, Tuttle, Oklahoma, and Holt, Greer; three sisters, Mrs. Nannie Benson, Greenville; Mrs. Mamie Boswell, Taylors, Route 1, and Mrs. Myra Barton, Taylors, Route 2; 10 grandchildren and four great-Grandchildren.
Funeral services will be conducted Monday at 4:30 p.m. at Bartons Memorial Holiness Church by the Rev. Otis Hopkins, the Rev. J. Lewis Coward and the Rev. Henry Goldberg. Burial will be in the church cemetery.
Pallbearers who will meet at the church at 4:15 p.m. Monday will nbe nephews: Gentry, Lance, T. E. and Don Barton, Bill Wood and Eugene Boswell.Honorary escort who will meet at the church at the same time will be Alonzo Beacham, Mark Jenkins, James Rollins, Henry Gosnell, R. O. Crowe, P. M. Wilbanks, Leon Few, Fred Rollins, Cleve Bramlett, Jordan Loftis, Haskel Crain, M. S. Poole, Paul Barton, the Rev. James Thompson, the Rev. R. L. Duncan and the Rev. W. E. Unthank. The body is at Wood Mortuary and will be carried to the home of Mrs. Poole at 3 p.m. Sunday and placed in the church at 3:30 p.m. Monday.
