Richard was the 3rd child of 8 born to Rachael(McAssey) and Richard Harris;

He was born and raised in Metomen TWP, Wisconsin. He and his brother Ben married Meyer sisters. He married 1st Bertha Meyer daughter of Bertha Marie (Wiggenhorn) and George E Meyer. They had no children.

Dora Ernestine Meyer was born in Wisconsin a sister to Bertha. She and Richard Harris were married on Aug 30, 1884 in Nepeuskum, Wi where his occupation was as a farmer. Witnesses were Dora's parents. Richard and Dora had 4 children.

The family lived in Wisconsin and then moved to Colorado to "look for gold". They lived most of their lives in Denver and some years in San Diego.

He was remembered as tall and red-headed with a good sense of humor.

Richard Harris 78 years old, pioneer, mining man who journeyed across the plains to Denver in a covered wagon as a young man in 1870, in search of gold died friday at the home of his daughter, Mrs J.W. Eck, 343 South Emerson St after a lingering illness.
Mr Harris knew Denver in it's glamorous mining days. He spent most of his life searching for gold in Colorado, Idaho, Utah, and Oregon. He watched Denver grow from a village with an Indian camp on Cherry Creek to the town it is now.
Mr Harris was born at Ripon, WI, Nov 21 1851. his memories of early days are said by his survivors to have been one of his greatest pleasures.
