In the early forties he moved with his family to Lodi, which became his home. Daryl attended Lafayette School and graduated from Lodi High in 1950. After attending and graduating from Golden Gate University in San Francisco, he received his degree in Accounting. Daryl was stationed at Fort Sheridan, Illinois in 1954, while serving in the Army as an Administrative Specialist.
In 1958, Daryl moved back to Lodi and began his Accounting practice and became a partner in DeJong Insurance, the family business. Daryl had his CPA practice in Lodi for 45 years. Daryl was a member of the California Society of CPA's for over 40 years. He also was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Lodi, Lodi Elks Club, Lodi Boat Club, and the Del Mar Vagabando's. Daryl enjoyed golfing, bowling, fishing, boating, RV travel, playing cards, playing board games, and he was an avid S.F. Giant and S.F. 49er fan. Daryl always look forward to Super Bowl Sunday because that meant he would be dining on Fresh Crab with Dorothy, his wife.
Daryl is survived by his wife of 32 years, Dorothy DeJong; his children, David (Carlyne) DeJong, Denise Engelmann of Lodi, Julie Nelson of Rancho Palos Verdes and Heidi (Charlie) Barsuglia of Roseville. His step-children, Monie Segale of Angeles Camp, Tony (Danine) Segale of Lodi, Cindy (Greg) Shinkwin of Modesto, and Frank (Barbara) Segale of Margate, FL. He is also survived by 15 grandchildren, 4 great-grandchildren, a brother, Orville DeJong of Roseville, and 2 nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, Edward and Ann DeJong and his brother Burdette DeJong.
Daryl was a loving and caring husband, father, and grandfather, he will be deeply missed.
Visitation will be on Thursday, January 19, 2012 from 5:00 – 8:00 p.m. at Cherokee Memorial Funeral Home, 831 Industrial Way, Lodi.
A Memorial Service will be held on Friday, January 20, 2012 at 1:00 p.m. in the Evergreen Chapel at Cherokee Memorial Park. with Pastor Alan Kimber officiating.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Hospice of San Joaquin, Lodi Memorial Foundation, Fairmont Rehabilitation Hospital, or to Woodbridge Fire Department.
