She was a loving mother of Dennis Costa (Tom Beatty) of Palm Springs and Melinda Costa of Lodi. LaVerne was a homemaker and worked alongside her husband on their dairy farm in Lodi until she retired.
She was preceded in death by her mother, Mary Lopes, and father, Manuel Lopes, of Thornton, CA. LaVerne was a loving grandmother to Amanda (Costa) Blundell (Fernando)and great grandmother to Nevaeh and Achilles.
LaVerne was an active member of many groups and organizations including past president of Lady of Fatima Society in Thornton and C.P.S.C. in Stockton. Other organizations include S.P.R.S.I., U.P.P.E.C, and Luso American fraternal organizations. She volunteered as a Pink Lady at Lodi Memorial Hospital, Lowell Senior Center, and rosary makers of St. Anne's Catholic Church.
LaVerne is survived by her brothers and sisters: Angie Tonarelli, Mary Costa (Tom), Antoinette Witt, Tony Lopes (Gerri), and Edward Lopes (Lois); and many nieces and nephews.
Friends are invited to visit on Saturday and Sunday from 9 a.m. until 6 p.m. at Lodi Funeral Home, with a Recitation of the Holy Rosary to be said on Sunday at 5 p.m. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Monday, January 22, at 10 a.m. at St. Anne's Catholic Church with committal to follow at Cherokee Memorial Park.
