High-altitude Mountain Climber

Chantal Mauduit was one of the few women ever to reach the summit of K2. Though a talented climber, her career was controversial; some claimed she put her fellow climbers at risk when she had to be rescued both on the descent from K2 and after a failed attempt to summit Mount Everest.

Despite these claims, there was no denying her accomplishments: without the assistance of supplemetal oxygen, she climbed K2, Shisha Pangma, Cho Oyu , Lhotse, Manaslu, and Gasherbrum II.

Mauduit and Sherpa Ang Tsering were killed on Dhaulagiri, when an avalanche buried the tent in which they were sleeping.
